Pearl is resigned to the fact that she must suffer a bit to be able to wear her pair of fancy Bata shoes to her cousin’s daughter’s wedding in New Amsterdam. She has been advised by the salesgirl to break the shoes in before the wedding. She can be seen sitting down in various places in the village, when the shoes start to pinch too much. She makes good use of the enforced resting times to gyaaf with passers-by and she also tells good ‘Nancy stories.
