Miss Bertha sells snacks outside the Majestic Cinema. She is famous for her parch-nuts and gets them raw from the North-West. She parches them until they are just right, neither too pale and soft nor too dark and bitter. Her best customers are the boys who sit in Pit. They shell the nuts and eat them, then they pelt people with the shells. Miss Bertha sits at the back of the cinema once she is sold out and can sing along with any Indian film song you care to name.
