Kaloutie’s late husband Roopram used to beat her and abuse her, especially when he had had a few drinks. She has not allowed this to harm her positive outlook on life and has brought up her sons to respect women. She and Mudder Melrose are great friends and have been a comfort to each other over the years, when things were bad. Kaloutie is the beloved mother-in-law of Asha, mother of Rooplall, Ajie of bodderashun lil bai Vishnu, Sharmila and baby Kamini and they live together very harmoniously.
